Kazuki Yamada conducts Boulanger and Ravel

Ravel's ballet Daphnis and Chloé conjures a paradise of gods and nymphs, creating a vivid love story where every kiss springs to life through musical composition. The programme also features Faust et Hélène by Lili Boulanger, a drama of seduction and damnation that evokes the tensions of a turbulent age. Guest conductor Kazuki Yamada leads the BBC Symphony Orchestra through these works, with the sumptuous Ravel ballet performed complete with the voices of the BBC Symphony Chorus. Boulanger's music, written before her tragically early death, is noted for its irrepressible dramatic power.
