An underground classical night.
Ukrainian guest conductor Kirill Karabits leads a programme celebrating melodies close to his heart. The concert features the exquisite violin virtuosity of RPO Artist-in-Residence Liya Petrova in Stravinsky’s challenging Violin Concerto. The evening opens with the glowing colors of Fyodor Akimenko’s rarely-heard masterwork Angel, a Poem-Nocturne, and concludes with Tchaikovsky’s vibrant Symphony no. 2, known as the 'Little Russian' for its use of Ukrainian folk tunes.
