Electric Umbrella #32: Bastien, Monk, Lumley, Rosaly

Finally, here’s a new edition of our much-loved improv series! This edition of the Electric Umbrella was curated by Johanna Monk, who brought together some top-notch musicians all of whom landed in The Netherlands from somewhere else. Let us be thankful that they landed here!! Johanna Monk is a multi-instrumentalist and performance artist who combines avant-garde sound with melodic folk influences. Pierre Bastien is a French composer and experimental instrument builder who blends trumpet with mechanical sound sculptures. Aaron Lumley is an exploratory contrabassist known for his raw, aggressive acoustic tone and forward-thinking techniques. Frank Rosaly is a drummer and sound designer whose work explores the ritual and folklore of Latin America and the Caribbean. On top of all this, this evening also features the visual art and poetry of Vanita Monk (1944-2024).
