Jazz-Jaren 1930 -1939 • Clara de Vries & de Blue Jazz Ladies
Bijlmerplein 888, 1102 MG Amsterdam, Netherlands
ZOJazz Stage and the Amsterdam City Archives present a night dedicated to the female jazz musicians of the 1930s. The program features a lecture by researcher Loes Rusch on the life of Clara de Vries, a pioneering Dutch jazz musician who led her own ensemble, the Blue Jazz Ladies. The lecture explores the significant but often overlooked role of women in jazz development and a generation whose careers were tragically cut short by the Second World War. Following the lecture, the Double Espresso Saxophone Quartet performs a live concert of improvisational jazz. Double Espresso is a unique all-female quartet founded in 2003 at the BIMHUIS, featuring a rare lineup of two alto and two baritone saxophones.
