Schnittke en Kalinnikov
Twee benaderingen van Russisch-Orthodoxe koormuziek komen hier samen. De Vespers van Victor Kalinnikov staan dicht bij de liturgische praktijk met vloeiende melodielijnen en heldere harmonieën. Alfred Schnittke biedt een radicale herinterpretatie van dezelfde traditie met zijn Boetepsalmen uit 1988. In Schnittke's Psalmen zijn orthodoxe invloeden herkenbaar maar vervormd door een modern muzikaal idioom. De compositie herdenkt de 1000e verjaardag van de christianisering van de regio en is gebaseerd op 16e-eeuwse Russische teksten over schuld en berouw.
