A nostalgic, slow-burn baroque night.
Cellist Chris Grist and pianist Daniel Grimwood present a richly expressive programme celebrating the lyrical beauty and dramatic power of the cello. The evening opens with Frank Bridge’s introspective Cello Sonata, followed by two contrasting pieces inspired by swans: Saint-Saëns’ elegant The Swan and Villa-Lobos’ mysterious Song of the Black Swan. The performance concludes with John Ireland’s powerful and passionate Cello Sonata. Together, these works create a compelling musical journey through light and shadow, revealing the cello at its most evocative.
