A nostalgic, slow-burn chamber music night.
Herbert-von-Karajan-Straße 1, 10785 Berlin, Germany
In the Beethoven cycle of our quartet series, the Quatuor Ébène repeatedly demonstrates the incredible development the composer underwent in this genre. Even in the early works, such as Opus 18 No. 3, he proves to be an equal to his role models Mozart and Haydn. But from his middle creative period onwards, his quartets gain in musical boldness and emotional power. In the dark Opus 59 No. 2, the second movement shines with floating harmonies, for which Beethoven was inspired by the starry sky. The "Quartetto serioso" is edgy and rugged, already hinting at the radicalism of his later works.
