Bach / Goldberg
A nostalgic, underground acoustic rock night.
Renowned harpsichordist Justin Taylor performs Johann Sebastian Bach's Goldberg Variations, one of the absolute peaks of music history. Published in 1741 as the fourth and final part of the Clavier-Übung, the work is celebrated for its technical brilliance and complex counterpoint. The Goldberg Variations consist of an opening aria and thirty variations, showcasing an extraordinary range of musical invention. According to legend, the work was commissioned by Count Keyserling to help with his insomnia, although the sheer energy and intellectual depth of the composition make it far more likely to engage the listener than to soothe them to sleep.
