Bill Stewart Trio
An underground jazz night.
The Bill Stewart Trio is among the absolute top of contemporary jazz. Drummer Bill Stewart has been one of the most in-demand musicians in international jazz for decades and shares a long history with double bassist Larry Grenadier, including work in the bands of Pat Metheny and John Scofield. Stewart first collaborated with tenor saxophonist Walter Smith III on a recording for pianist Danny Grissett. Smith's clear tone and idiosyncratic approach proved to be the perfect addition to this piano-less trio. Smith has previously performed with jazz greats like Roy Haynes and Ambrose Akinmusire. In recent years, the trio has performed multiple residencies at New York's Village Vanguard and previously released the album Band Menu. Their latest release, Live At The Village Vanguard, comes highly recommended. The group returns to LantarenVenster after five years.
