Copland and Stravinsky - BBC National Orchestra Of Wales

Copland and Stravinsky

A nostalgic chamber music night.

7:00 PM - 9:30 PM
Royal Albert Hall

Kensington Gore, South Kensington, London SW7 2AP, UK

Ryan Bancroft and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales perform two 20th-century ballets alongside a contemporary premiere. Stravinsky’s Petrushka brings puppets to life at a Shrovetide Fair through a collage of folk tunes and modernist invention, while Copland’s Billy the Kid provides a musical portrait of the infamous outlaw using cowboy melodies. Clarinetist Anthony McGill features as the soloist for the European premiere of Gabriel Kahane’s Clarinet Concerto, ‘If love will not swing wide the gates’, a work that blends classical forms with folk-pop influences.
