Jörg Widmann's fascination with the concept of the labyrinth is a central theme in his philosophical and compositional life, with seven works bearing the title. Labyrinth IV, which narrates the myth of the Minotaur from Ariadne's perspective, was specifically designed for the unique spatial possibilities of the Pierre Boulez Saal. This performance features the work conducted by Matthias Pintscher, who also leads his own piano concerto NUR. The program is rounded out by Pierre Boulez's 1946 Sonatine.
