A nostalgic, raw big band night.
The Mingus Big Band exclusively performs the music of the renowned American composer, bassist, and activist Charles Mingus. Created by Sue Mingus, this 14-piece ensemble features arrangements of Mingus's compositions in the large-band format he envisioned. The group's dynamic structure allows for deep musical exploration and individual artistic expression, continuing the tradition of Mingus's own Jazz Workshop. Comprised of a rotating cast of New York City's finest established and emerging musicians, the Grammy-winning band maintains a residency known as Mingus Mondays at The Pocket.
