Rituals: Requiem
Part of the LA Phil’s Rituals festival curated by Esa-Pekka Salonen, this program pairs two powerful requiems to explore themes of faith and mortality. Mozart’s unfinished Requiem, a sacred rite alternating between hope and fear, is presented alongside György Ligeti’s hyperdramatic and unrestrained Requiem. Ligeti's work, known for its appearance in Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, is described as a physical evocation of terror and a substantial statement on the shadow of death.
