A symphony celebrating the greatness of the human soul and a cinematic concerto come together in a performance of expansive orchestral soundscapes. Violinist Alena Baeva performs Korngold’s Violin Concerto, a work filled with the sweeping romance and passion characteristic of the composer’s film scores. Delyana Lazarova conducts the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5, which features a notably dark and lyrical slow movement. The evening begins with Dobrinka Tabakova’s exhilarating fanfare Orpheus’ Comet, a vibrant homage to Monteverdi.
