Rudolf Buchbinder concludes his complete cycle of Beethoven’s Piano Concertos with the towering Fifth, nicknamed “Emperor” for its ambition and grandeur. One of Beethoven’s foremost interpreters, Buchbinder performs the concerto known for its cosmic depth. Conductor Xian Zhang opens the program with Beethoven’s joyous Fourth Symphony, described as a slender Greek maiden between two giants, highlighting its ideal Classical structure between the Third and Fifth symphonies.
