Led by vocalist Dave Vanian, they were the first British punk group to release a single and an album, as well as the first to tour the United States. Throughout their career, they have evolved from raw punk to a darker, melodic gothic style, disbanding and reforming several times while remaining a powerful live act known for their energetic performances and Dave Vanian's distinctive crooning vocals.
