Yumiko Morioka: Resonance

A slow-burn, nostalgic ambient night.

7:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Royal Albert Hall

Kensington Gore, South Kensington, London SW7 2AP, UK

Yumiko Morioka's album Resonance is a landmark of the 1980s Japanese kankyō ongaku style, blending simple piano phrasings with ambient minimalism. This concert marks the first time music from the album has been performed live outside of Asia. In addition to Resonance, the trio will present the European premiere of Music for Rest Rooms. This new project, developed in collaboration with MSCTY Studio and the Thai cultural hub Wonderfruit, explores the concept of sound as a means of containment and decompression in public spaces. The performance draws on multisensorial memories from the Gunma prefecture in Japan, translating impressions and scents into musical form. Special guest artist Notep also joins the ensemble.
