London Symphony Orchestra/Sir Antonio Pappano - London Symphony Orchestra

London Symphony Orchestra & Janine Jansen

9:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Barbican Centre

Silk St, Barbican, London EC2Y 8DS, UK

The London Symphony Orchestra and Sir Antonio Pappano conclude their Ralph Vaughan Williams cycle with a performance of Sinfonia antartica. Originating from the soundtrack to the 1948 film Scott of the Antarctic, the symphony captures the icy atmosphere and glaciers of the frozen continent. The programme also features Jean Sibelius' The Swan of Tuonela, a sombre and evocative movement from the Lemminkäinen Suite depicting a swan gliding across a lake. Completing the evening is the world premiere of Richard Dubugnon's new violin concerto, Sonnenring, performed by Janine Jansen. Dubugnon's work is known for combining contemporary style with impressionistic orchestral colours.
