New Jazz Underground is one of the most exciting new names in jazz, as noted by Christian McBride at the 2025 Newport Jazz Festival. The New York trio, consisting of Sebastian Rios, Abdias Armenteros, and TJ Reddick, began as jams sessions between Juilliard students during the lockdown. They built their reputation independently, moving from busking on street corners to viral living room performances. Their sound blends hard bop and hip-hop, honoring jazz traditions while pushing them in fresh, energetic directions. After playing prestigious venues like Jazz at Lincoln Center and Birdland, they bring their raw New York energy to Rotterdam.
