Formed in the United Kingdom in 1972, Black Slate is a deep roots reggae band that originally worked as a backing group for Jamaican legends like Dennis Brown and Jimmy Cliff. After achieving international success in the late 1970s with hits like Sticks Man and Amigo, the group took a hiatus to focus on family and other ventures. They returned to the studio to record Peaceful Demonstration, their first full-length album since 1982, blending analog recording techniques from the 1970s with a modern roots feel and socially conscious lyrics. The current lineup features original members Anthony Brightly, Chris Hanson, and Desmond Mahoney, alongside newer additions Colin McNiesh, Jessie Brade, and Gaven Creary.
