Konzert im Pierre Boulez Saal II
A nostalgic, underground classical night.
Französische Str. 33D, 10117 Berlin, Germany
Andreas Ottensamer, the long-standing solo clarinetist of the Berlin Philharmonic, has also been performing worldwide as a conductor for several years. The four works in his program with the Staatskapelle Berlin are all connected to his hometown of Vienna: Mozart conducted his A major Symphony there in 1783, and Schönberg began work in Vienna on his Second Chamber Symphony, which he only completed decades later as a tonally oriented work in the USA. Franz Schreker composed his Intermezzo shortly after graduating from the Vienna Conservatory. Finally, Joseph Haydn spent the last years of his life in Vienna after years of service as Kapellmeister and celebrated trips abroad, during which he received a doctorate in Oxford.
