Bach Cantates
A nostalgic, underground baroque night.
Founded by harpsichordist and organist Sébastien Daucé, Ensemble Correspondances presents a concert dedicated to the cantatas of Johann Sebastian Bach. While Bach's most prolific period for cantatas began in Leipzig in 1723, this programme focuses on his earlier, more introspective works composed in Weimar between 1714 and 1717. The selection includes the poignant 'Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen' (BWV12), the monumental 'Ich hatte viel Bekümmernis' (BWV21), which moves from sorrow to consolation, and the festive 'Erschallet, ihr Lieder' (BWV172) featuring brilliant trumpets.
