Phronesis-bassist baant zich een eigen weg door de pianotrio-traditie. Als medeoprichter van Phronesis gaf bassist en componist Jasper Høiby nieuwe energie aan het begrip pianotrio. Dezelfde kijk op structuur, risico en collectief muzikaal momentum vormt ook de basis van zijn eigen project, 3Elements. Voor deze formatie nodigt hij telkens weer andere jonge spelers uit, met dit keer pianist Xavi Torres en drummer Naíma Acuña. Op Conversations of Hope, uitgebracht op Edition Records, klinkt muziek die snel beweegt en hard aankomt: heldere melodische ideeën, verschuivende maatsoorten en een acuut gevoel voor ruimte. Acuña’s precieze, drijvende drumwerk en het harmonisch gefocuste pianospel van Torres sluiten nauw aan op Høiby’s composities, waarin de contrabas centraal staat.
