Lila is the core ritual of the Gnawa tradition, a ceremony that transforms music and trance into a single healing movement from sunset to sunrise. Maalem Mustapha Sam (known as Sam Sghir) leads this six-hour ritual, which follows a strictly coded sequence of qraqeb rhythms and Guembri melodies through seven symbolic colors. Conducted alongside Mqaddma Souad, the ceremony transitions the Sonic Pluriverse Festival into its original, communal form. This authentic spiritual experience centers on transmission and ritual authority rather than commercial performance.
