Mapping Resistance: An evening of collective listening to Gazan voices - Ambient Gaza

Mapping Resistance

An underground, bleak ambient night.

6:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Studio 12

Studio 12, 1 Addington Square, London SE5 7JZ

An interactive listening session and banner-making workshop that makes audible the testimonies of Palestinians in Gaza. From recordings of Gaza beach and bookshops to agricultural land in Rafah, words materialise on textile while sounding in space to highlight the lived experience of Gazans. The session is followed by a discussion with art collective Ambient Gaza, poet Shahd Alnaami, and textile artist Rim Irscheid about Gazan life and media representation. Ambient Gaza is a sound project rooted in radical listening, featuring oral testimonies and ambient recordings to create a place-based archive. Shahd Alnaami is a Palestinian writer and translator from Gaza whose work has been published by Al Jazeera and The Electronic Intifada. Rim Irscheid is an ethnomusicologist and artist whose installations address sensory aspects of memory and home.
