Het geliefde ensemble Vox Luminis keert terug naar het Muziekgebouw om Purcells opera Dido and Aeneas tot leven te wekken. Onder begeleiding van sopraan Carine Tinney, die eerder indruk maakte in The Fairy Queen, brengt het ensemble deze tragische en humoristische meesterzet van de Engelse componist ten gehore. De uitvoering wordt voorafgegaan door een college van Saskia Törnqvist over de ontstaansgeschiedenis en de politieke context van het werk, dat vermoedelijk in 1689 in première ging op een school voor adellijke meisjes.
