Pride in Barcelona

Circuit Festival was launched in 2008 by the Matinée Group and is the largest gay festival of its kind in Europe. It runs for days, spreads across venues inside and outside the city, and works more as a destination than as a local celebration - people come from across Europe for it. Pride Barcelona is the other major moment, with a parade and events through the summer, and it holds the more demanding, local character of the two. Spain recognised same-sex marriage in 2005.

The geography is plain: the Gaixample, the stretch of the Eixample that took its nickname from the scene, holds most of the bars and clubs and runs year-round. Around it the city has parties that change from season to season, while the seafront takes its own crowd in summer. That double structure - a local scene working twelve months and an international festival peaking in August - is why Barcelona's list never empties entirely. Here it shows LGBTQ+ friendly events as a whole and not only the days of the parade. In winter the weight falls on the Gaixample clubs; in summer the open-air nights and the festival days are added to them.
