sentimental value if they were criminals instead of actors
“Wait for me here.” Focuses on so many little details that feel so quietly urgent. The sensation of holding your father when you’re little and can barely wrap your arms around him. The roughness of his hands. The wrinkles that line his face. The thrumming pulse visible in his neck. The sound of breath as he sleeps. Memorizing the totality of a man who so actively tries to push you away. You’re so young and so desperate for his gaze to rest on you for more than a handful of seconds, even when he so often wants to look anywhere but at you. Beautiful work here that settles in really nicely with other films from recent years (ie Scrapper and In the Summers) as well as Sofia Coppola’s Somewhere.
An 11-year-old girl named Iris tracks down her long-absent father in a coastal town during a family funeral, leading to a fragile attempt at reconciliation.
The film was directed by Myrsini Aristidou, premiering at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival.
