An underground contemporary classical artist.
Ava Rasti is an Iranian musician and composer based in Berlin. A pianist and bass guitarist, she began her solo project in 2020, developing a practice that moves between electronic music, acoustic instruments, improvisation and composition. In 2023, she released her album Ginestra, shaped by the experience of the Woman, Life, Freedom movement in Iran. Her following album, The River, was released through FatCat Records' 130701 imprint. Alongside her own music, Rasti composes for film and theatre. Her film scores have been presented at major international festivals, including The Great Yawn of History, which received the Special Jury Award in the Encounters section at the Berlinale, and Sunshine Express, which premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. She also composed the score for 1001 Frames, which premiered at the Berlinale. Rasti has performed internationally at venues and festivals including Semibreve Festival, Le Lieu Unique, Silent Green, Sonica Festival, BRDCST Festival, The Great Escape and Kunstenfestivaldesarts. Her live performances combine piano, strings, electronics and improvisation, allowing her compositions to move between fixed structures and open, evolving forms. Across recorded music, live performance, film and theatre, experimentation remains central to Rasti's practice, alongside an enduring interest in memory, place and the ways they shape one another.
Ava Rasti plays contemporary classical and ambient music, combining minimalist piano, strings, and electronics inspired by memory and place.
