A polished arabesque act.
'Dar-Disku' comes from the 1970s Egyptian pop culture magazine of the same name and directly translates into 'home of the disco'. Dar Disku is a label celebrating music from across Arabia. Founded by Mazen AlMaskati and Vish Matre in 2018; the label encompasses all things strange and pure. From learning about the microtonal arrangements in Farsi music to learning south Indian polyrhythms and the almost forgotten 1970s punk rock and psychedelia movements in Egypt, Lebanon and Iran, Dar Disku couldn’t help but think, what comes next? They spent the last few years discovering incredible sub-genres such as Dabke, Rai, ArabiDisco, Habibi House, Afrodisco, Sawt and Khaliji and have shared the stage with artists such as Hunee , Four Tet , Nabihah Iqbal , Palms Trax , Young Marco BADBADNOTGOOD and Motor City Drum Ensemble and played iconic venues and festivals across the world such as fabric and Glastonbury. Dar Disku have recently been named as Mixmag’s “Breakthrough DJ of the Year” as well as being shortlisted for Resident Advisor’s “Tracks of the Year” . With releases such as Moving Still’s Bas Ismaa Meny and Sidi Mansour in their label catalogue alongside their own Abdel Kader and Zawgy Al Azeez (Edit) flips - the duo continues to introduce listeners to the sounds of the MENA region through a modern sonic lens. Today, Dar Disku continues to spread the sounds of the Middle East in a multitude of mediums. Live or recorded, the energy of Arabian Gulf is felt throughout.
