Mortal Sin have returned to the stage in 2026 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their debut album Mayhemic Destruction. The album was self financed by the band and recorded at EMI Studios Sydney on 25th July 1986. With just 3 days to record and 40 hours to mix, in what was meant to be just a demo, the band decided to release the 8 songs as an album on their own label Mega Metal Productions. In late 1986 the band sent copies of the album around the world which caught the attention of record labels. A copy was sent to Shades Record shop in London which got played on their turntables as soon as it was unpackaged. Phonogram Records Head A&R guy David Thorne happened to be in the shop at the time and asked whether the songs they were playing was the new Metallica album. The shop staff explained that it was an Australian band called Mortal Sin and the album was called Mayhemic Destruction! Mortal Sin did something strange for back in the day and included a postal address and a phone number (which was vocalist Mat Maurer's home number) and this record company guy bought the album and called us the next day to discuss a record deal. So Mortal Sin signed a record deal with Phonogram Records of London. The album was re-released with new updated artwork from an emerging artist called Simon Bisley, who at the time had just started doing art for Judge Dredd and is now famous worldwide for his art.
