A homegrown, underground jazz artist.
Sassa Papalamprou was born in Drama in 1980. From her childhood she studied classical piano lessons and other academic subjects. She graduated in Harmony with cum laude honors. She studied at the Ionian University of Corfu, in the music department, while making classical voice lessons. She has participated in concerts of Greek and foreign repertoire throughout Greece, as in for example Worldwide Day Festival against Drugs 2012, organized by Technopolis of municipality of Athens, as well as in the concert of the Holy Archbishop "Mission" at OAKA 2012, with the presence of many well-known artists. She has also collaborated with great jazz musicians, as Dimitris Vassilakis, Emmanuel Saridakis, as well as Greek singers, like Vaggelis Germanos, Giannis Koutras etc. She has made numerous appearances at the greek television show "Stin ygeia mas". In 2017 she finished her postgraduate studies of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, in the sector of Ethnomusicology and Cultural Anthropology, while the same year she presented her first album, named “Crama”, with her personal covers and instrumentations of Greek traditional songs, in jazz style. During 2018-19 she was teaching at National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, in the new postgraduate sector of “Jazz performance and new technologies”.
Sassa Papalamprou plays a distinctive fusion of traditional Greek folk music and contemporary jazz, deeply rooted in her academic background in ethnomusicology.
Her notable album is Crama, released in 2017, which features personal jazz reinterpretations and instrumentations of traditional Greek songs.
