A high-energy, underground neo-psychedelic act.
Made up of Alex Hill, Isaac Jones, James Rushforth and Nick Berthoud, alongside visual artist Jason Baker, SCALER have been hailed as "Bristol's next national breakthrough" (The Guardian). 2022's acclaimed 'Void' earned praise for their "perfect synergy between intensity and precision" (Pitchfork) and led to a 2023 double A-side single with Daniel Avery ('Loam' / 'New Symbols') that expanded on their more club-wise impulses – in keeping with a slew of remix projects shared over the years, featuring boundary-hoppers such as Laurel Halo and Mogwai. It also meant more chances to play out their formidable live show, including an ArcTanGent headline and a Shangri-La shutdown at Glastonbury. Sophomore record 'Endlessly' followed in 2025 and was nominated for an AIM award for 'Best Independent Album'. Powerful and immediate, 'Endlessly' tugs at emotional threads and sonic touchpoints that feel tangled up – deliberately so – in the musical heritage of their city. There are traces of trip-hop, drum'n'bass and experimental electronic, plus flashes of pupil-dilating techno, metal and drill. The deluxe record featured remixes from Batu and Yushh alongside live versions recorded at Bristol's legendary Factory Studios. Hot on its heels comes 'Reflex', an EP full of kinetic energy, satisfying a craving for immediacy and pushing them into brighter, bolder territory. The layers of intricate collaboration on 'Endlessly' are peeled back and the raw energy of SCALER is cast forth.
