An underground electronic artist.
Philipp Hülsenbeck is a Berlin-based artist moving between electroacoustic sensibilities, electronic production, and a persistent willingness to step into unfamiliar territory and initiate new forms of collaboration. He has released solo works under his own name and as Uxile on labels such as TraTraTrax - a leading force in avant-garde Latin American club music - Altin Village & Mine, Präsens Editionen, and his own Unguarded imprint, and has contributed as a composer and producer to the work of artists such as Florentina Holzinger and Peaches. Commissioned works and contributions include collaborations with the Gewandhaus Leipzig and the Schauspielhaus Zürich. Hülsenbeck has performed at festivals such as CTM, Berliner Festspiele, Mahler Festival Leipzig, Iceland Airwaves, SXSW Austin Texas, Sónar Festival Barcelona, and Kampnagel Int. Summer Festival, and at venues such as Berghain, Bauhaus, Gewandhaus Leipzig, Volksbühne Berlin, ICC Berlin, and Nikolaikirche, with shows across Europe as well as in Mexico and the USA. He is co-founder of the Unguarded label and art platform, the Spydergum ensemble, and the NEST space for research & experimentation. His work is as much about the people it draws together as the music itself, always informed by encounters, interactions and the resulting introspection.
