Four films into his career, one of the prevailing themes of Jonathan Glazer’s work is the magnitude of devastation caused by belief. In codes, structures, desire, the phantasmagoric unknown. Be careful where you let your mind take you, it may be your undoing. There’s no smarm or detachment in his films — I, personally, wouldn't have the gall, the confidence to see beyond the potential self-effacement or bitter irony of these stories and their wild premises. They feel real because they are real.
