Wanderlust
A nostalgic, underground early music night.
Ensemble Théodora makes its London Festival of Baroque Music debut with a programme that mirrors its own origins: a rich musical dialogue between nations. At the heart of Wanderlust lies the powerful influence of Louis XIV’s France on German musical taste, from the theatrical brilliance of Lully to the refined keyboard and sacred traditions that flourished across the Holy Roman Empire at the turn of the 18th century. Drawing on rarely heard works from German court libraries of Kassel and Schwerin, the ensemble brings to light a repertoire that blends elegance, dance, and expressive depth. Performed ‘in the round’ on period instruments, this programme reveals a sound world shaped by the German courts’ fascination with the splendour of Versailles, where French grace meets German imagination.
