James Gaffigan and the BBC Symphony Orchestra celebrate the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence with a program spanning 100 years of American music. South Korean pianist Yeol Eum Son joins the ensemble for George Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F major, a work reflecting the vibrant energy of 20th-century New York with its Charleston rhythms. The evening also features Samuel Barber’s lyrical and dramatic Symphony No. 1 and the UK premiere of a concerto by contemporary jazz legend Wynton Marsalis.
