Janine Jansen & Alexandre Kantorow
A nostalgic classical night.
A summit meeting between the luminous and virtuoso bow of Janine Jansen and the sparkling and inspired piano of Alexandre Kantorow as they take on three masterpieces of chamber literature. Written in Vienna in 1797, Beethoven's three sonatas for violin and piano of Opus 12 were dedicated to Salieri. The third sonata displays an almost concertante instrumental style, full of good humor and youthful momentum. Of the six sonatas for various instruments that Debussy wanted to write, only three were completed, including the 1917 sonata for violin and piano, a free and whimsical work of incomparable spring. Thirty years earlier, César Franck signed a monument of chamber literature with his own Sonata, of such intensity and passion that it inspired Proust's mythical Vinteuil Sonata.
