Heiner Goebbels: Walden
An underground, slow-burn classical night.
As part of the '20 Years of Radialsystem' celebrations, Heiner Goebbels' 'Walden' returns in a striking new production directed by the artist. Inspired by Henry David Thoreau's 19th-century writings, the work explores themes of solitude, nature, and radical simplicity, contrasting urban life with the search for environmental harmony. Originally composed in 1998, this reinterpreted version features the unique sound of Ensemble Klang and the string players of Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop. The production includes evocative lighting by Marc Thein and sound design by Micha de Kanter, utilizing unconventional instruments like the steel cello and daxophone across nine vivid movements.
