Dent May brings his bittersweet, exuberant indie pop to Berlin. Over a career spanning more than 17 years, the Mississippi-born, Los Angeles-based songwriter has built a singular world of irresistible melodies, lush arrangements and ecstatic melancholy — music that can break your heart while making you sing along. From the DIY spirit of The Magnetic Fields and Elephant 6 to the timeless songwriting of Harry Nilsson and Paul McCartney, May has developed a sound entirely his own across six albums, alongside collaborations including the platinum-certified “Something About You” with Eyedress. His new album The Big One marks a new chapter: abandoning his meticulous bedroom-pop routine, May gathered a rotating cast of LA musicians for spontaneous live sessions built around improvisation and chemistry. The result is warm, playful and deeply human pop music — melancholic but hopeful, celebrating friendship, community and the strange joy of being alive.
