Solistische hoogstandjes van toen en nu. De vier jaargetijden van Vivaldi staan in elke hitlijst van de klassieke muziek. Zeer terecht, want weinig stukken spreken zo tot de verbeelding als deze evergreen. Er zijn te veel fantastische violisten in het Concertgebouworkest om het bij één solist te laten. Daarom vertolken vier verschillende solisten de hoofdrol in dit programma, onder leiding van concertmeester Tjeerd Top. De Australisch-Nederlandse componiste Kate Moore haalt net als Vivaldi haar inspiratie uit de natuur. Moore heeft dit programma samengesteld en maakt speciaal voor deze gelegenheid een nieuwe bewerking van haar compositie Arc-en-ciel, voor cello en kamerorkest.
