Aegina's musical summer has two acts: the Aegina Music Festival, three weeks of classical music, opera and Greek song in August in church courtyards and on Avra beach, and the Aegina Fistiki Fest in September, the pistachio fair that brings a concert to the harbour every night.

The Aegina Music Festival has run since the mid-2000s and has passed its twentieth edition, under the artistic direction of pianist Dora Bakopoulou and Elena Chounta. It takes the first three weeks of August, across the 15 August holiday, and every concert starts at nine in the evening. The programme is classical and chamber music, opera arias, musical-theatre tributes and, to close, Greek song: the finale on Avra beach has had Alkinoos Ioannidis and Elli Paspala singing Hadjidakis, while the chamber nights have brought names from the international circuit with the Thessaloniki State Orchestra taking part.
The venues are part of the experience. The main stage is the courtyard of the Church of the Saviour, the finales happen on Avra beach with the sea behind the stage, and some nights move to the small stone Molfesis theatre in Pacheia Rachi. Tickets are sold through ticketservices.gr and in advance at the Aiakeion patisserie in town, with reduced prices for students and the unemployed, and the box office opens an hour before each concert.
In September, from the third Thursday to Sunday of the month, the Aegina Fistiki Fest fills the waterfront with stalls from the growers of the protected Aegina pistachio. It is not a music festival, but every night has a concert on the harbour stage next to Agios Nikolaos Thalassinos: the Aegina Estudiantina opens, names like ONIRAMA, Christos Nikolopoulos or Eleonora Zouganeli follow, and the closing night is a party on the Old Pier. Aegina is forty minutes from Piraeus by fast ferry and a little over an hour by conventional boat, with dozens of crossings a day in summer, so a concert easily becomes an evening trip from Athens.
