The festival that made Drama known is a film festival, not a music one. The city's concerts have two other dates: Eleftheria, from mid-June to the liberation anniversary on 1 July, with a big concert on Eleftherias Square, and Dramaica, three free nights on the lawns of Agia Varvara in the last week of August.

Eleftheria is the municipality's commemorative programme for the liberation of the city on 1 July 1913. It starts around mid-June, and for three weeks the small Sokratis Dimitriadis theatre at Agia Varvara, inside the park of the springs, has dance groups and choirs from the city's associations almost every night. The climax is the big concert on the eve, 30 June, on Eleftherias Square, with names such as Melina Aslanidou with the Tsachouridis brothers. The same programme includes a concert night for young bands at Kalos Agros Park.
The Dramaica Youth Festival is the summer's musical moment for the younger crowd: three nights in the last week of August on the lawns of Agia Varvara, free entry, starting around nine, with local bands before each night's headliner. It is organised by the municipality with the DRASYN youth body and has brought everyone from Giannis Kotsiras and Dimos Anastasiadis to STAN, Ivi Adamou and a symphonic rock orchestra. August also has the International Folk Dance Festival in Xiropotamos, a village just outside the city, run by its cultural association since 1993, and in late September the Arion society stages the Rebetiko Festival at the Agia Varvara theatre and opposite the municipal library.
In September the city belongs to the Drama International Short Film Festival, its film festival, and in December to Oneiroupoli, the Christmas village in the municipal garden with concerts of its own. For big summer concerts, the Philippi Festival of the Kavala municipal theatre opens and closes with concerts at the ancient theatre of Philippi in Krinides, twenty kilometres from Drama, from early July to early September, and Kavala's Cosmopolis brings world music to its Old Town in the first days of July. Drama is two hours from Thessaloniki by KTEL bus or train.
