Every June the municipality announces its Summer programme, which opens with a concert on 21 June and keeps growing through August, with some nights reaching into September. The main stage is the Altinalmazi garden theatre, the open-air theatre inside the eco-park on the northern edge of town, with about fifteen hundred seats, opened in 2017 to replace the old theatre in the Scouts' Park. That is where the summer's names play, from Eleonora Zouganeli, Matthaios Tsachouridis and Christos Thivaios with Panagiotis Margaris to Anastasia and Toquel. Other nights are shared between the EOT beach, the seafront, the Zarifeios Academy, the small theatre of Agios Efplous and the football ground in Feres.
Nautical Week is the easiest way into the city's music: a week in early July, with the stage on Lighthouse Square by the sea and free entry for everyone. It opens and closes with big concerts, from a Mikis Theodorakis tribute to Dimos Anastasiadis, Dimitris Basis or Klavdia, with bands and local groups in between. Mid-July belongs to the Panhellenic Festival of Traditional Dance and Song in Antheia, a village in the municipality, which has passed thirty editions.
On a Thursday in early August the Alexandroupolis traders' association stages White Night: the shops stay open late and thirteen music stages spread through the streets of the centre, with the seafront kept open to traffic so people can move around. And for anyone carrying on to the island, One Festival in Samothrace puts on classical and traditional music with theatre at Palaiopolis and in the village squares from July, with the ferry leaving from the port of Alexandroupolis.
