So i'm circling back a couple years in my never ending chronological journey through mostly the back alleys of Hollywood. I will do this if I find a movie that either stars someone i'm interested in or the plot sounds interesting enough. It's a combination of both with this one as the plot synopsis was intriguing enough for me to take a look at this and Tom Keene while never a great actor is at least good looking and doesn't make a total ass out of himself.Anywho, he plays an agent tasked with stopping an American gunrunner named Burris (Cornelius Keefe) from selling guns and ammunition to the Chinese. Wong (Tetsu Komai) the lead Chinese buyer goes along with Burris and keeps an eye out on Keene. Keene and his cohort Wally (Warren Hymer) spot Burris' girl Trina (Wera Engels) and of course she has no clue that her guy is a gunrunner. You get the usual thing with Keene convincing her that Burris is no good and she's on his side as he takes on Burris and Co.This was done during the time Keene hadn't built himself up/gotten his acting up to snuff to be first billed as he's billed in the middle of the cast here. He's ostensibly the lead character but honestly to me, the real character to follow is Wong which is surprising given when this was filmed. Wong is not necessarily a bad person as he's buying the weapons for his people. We get a really nice character arc with him and you see his honor after he's given a chance to live after a failed knifing of Keene. Wong goes from helping Burris to realizing that he's been working with a scumbag and it is he who helps Keene and Trina at the end. The movie also does a pretty good job with TRYING to be authentic. Some of it is definitely stock footage but the sets do give off a stereotypical Asian view of things. Some of the sets actually look pretty large or at the very least the director E. Mason Hopper did a good job of making it look larger than it is. This isn't the greatest movie and it's hampered by Warren Hymer's "comedic" sidekick who is loud, annoying and treats all the Asian characters like crap. He disappears 3/4ths of the way. Apparently Hymer was a nasty drunk so he was probably kicked off the film. This isn't the greatest film but it gets from Point A to Point B well enough and the arc of Wong makes it worth sitting through.
