nyff63 #3i had the pleasure of sitting next to an older (maybe 55-60 years of age) woman and before the screening started we had a good 10 minutes of chatting with each other. not only was she extremely happy to see so many young faces around, but it almost brought her to tears. she told me that in her 4 decades of living in and around new york city she’s never made her way to a film festival screening, but with her fathers recent passing, who was a massive springsteen fan, she felt it was fitting to make the effort to be present for the premiere of deliver me from nowhere. she spent the next 2 hours tearing up, sniffling, smiling, and pointing at the screen almost every time a new location or song came in, and when the born in the usa recording scene hit she started to cry in a way that felt both painfully sad and heartbreakingly joyous, as if every single memory of her late father had flashed before her eyes. i thought this movie was good and jeremy allen white is incredible but knowing this woman probably just watched what she’ll consider the greatest movie of all time was a very special moment in my movie watching career.
