A raw contemporary jazz night.
Immanuel Wilkins marked his ascent in the American jazz world with a series of acclaimed performances at New York's legendary Village Vanguard. This year, the iconic Blue Note label released three albums capturing these concerts, solidifying the alto saxophonist's status as a premier artist. Known for his social engagement, Wilkins often incorporates Black history and current events into his epic compositions, expressed through his poignant saxophone style. Drawing inspiration from John Coltrane and gospel music, Wilkins also collaborates with contemporary peers like Joel Ross and Jason Moran. His diverse range extends to work with artists such as Solange Knowles, Wynton Marsalis, and Bob Dylan, as well as projects with visual artists and filmmakers.
