Timoleon and Julia: A Baroque Story of Cross-Dressing - Nicolò Balducci

Timoleon and Julia

A nostalgic, queer baroque night.

8:30 PM
Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center

Center, Leof. Andrea Siggrou 364, Kallithea 176 74, Greece

Against the backdrop of the French Grand Siècle, the adventurous and humorous stories of François-Timoléon de Choisy and Jully d'Aubigny come to life on stage. Choisy was dressed as a girl by his mother to entertain royalty, while d'Aubigny earned her living as a sword-fighter dressed as a man. The performance features works by Jean-Henri d'Anglebert, Robert de Visée, Michel Lambert, Jean-Baptiste Lully, and Michel Richard de Lalande, bringing these historical figures to life through the literature and fiction of their time. Part of the Second Cycle of the Early Music Days festival, titled «Active Pasts», the production explores early music as an active field of reinterpretation rather than a historical fossil.
