Sakari Oramo conducts Debussy and Shostakovich
Debussy’s La mer headlines a performance filled with elemental force, ranging from Britten’s East Anglian coastal scenes to the energetic works of Shostakovich. The program explores vibrant musical colors and powerful symphonic textures. BBC Symphony Orchestra Chief Conductor Sakari Oramo leads the ensemble in the opening concert of their new season. They are joined by acclaimed cellist Senja Rummukainen for Shostakovich’s First Cello Concerto, a work of great intensity that serves as a counterpart to the evocative sea-inspired compositions of Britten and Debussy.
