An underground chamber music night.
1 Milton St, London EC2Y 9BH
Artist in Residence Lawrence Power play-directs the young Collegium ensemble in a concert of luminous theatricality and dazzling energy. Violist Lawrence Power has gathered a group of the finest young players in Europe for this Collegium concert, which includes the UK premiere of Garth Knox’s Viola Concerto, a dramatic narrative work inspired by the tale of the Ancient Mariner, in which the players become the ‘boat’ carrying the soloist. Matthew Locke’s Curtain Tune from The Tempest helps to set the maritime tone. A highlight will be their performance of Elizabeth Machonchy’s sizzling symphony for double string orchestra, a work of huge vitality and invention, prefaced here by Mozart’s sublime Serenata Notturno.
